These key features include;
Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics e.g. stage performances in metal videos and dance routine for a boy/girl band.
There is a relationship between lyrics and what is going on on screen (either illustrating, amplifying and contradicting).
The demands of the record label will include the need of lots of close ups of the singer , the artist may develop motifs e.g. Michael Jackson's frosted glove.
There are frequently references to the notion of looking and particularly voyueristic treatment of the female body.
Laura Mulvey had the theory of the male gaze.
